Summary:

Evaluate students referred for PT testing, prepare written assessment, and provide physical therapy services.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 
  • Assess data for disabling conditions and their effects on sensory, motor, psychological, and cognitive/academic development for special needs students.
  • Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local, state and federal laws pertaining to the provision of physical therapy services in the school setting.
  • Provide treatment procedures and research for therapy services in the school setting.
  • Select, administer, and interpret appropriate assessment instruments for a school setting, relevant to the student’s age, educational needs, and developmental level.
  • Evaluate students with disabilities and their performance in a school setting.
  • Plan and implement intervention strategies compatible with classroom learning.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, administrators, parents, and community members.
  • Provide goals based on assessment and intervention results.
  • Provide services to eligible special education students through the IEP process, and to include parents in the decision making and delivery of services.
  • Provide therapy services aimed at preventing secondary impairments associated with the student’s disability.
  • Provide recommendations for the classroom.
  • Supervise Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Participate in program planning for individual students.
  • Evaluate eligibility and maintenance of physical therapy services. 
  • Accept other responsibilities and duties assigned by supervisor
  • Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure
  • Complete and comply with all required trainings annually
  • Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8)
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the scope of the position

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 
  • NM PED Physical Therapy License
  • NM Board License in Physical Therapy
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree as required for license

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 
  • Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferred
  • Good communication skills and customer service skills
  • Must obtain a minimum of 2.0 CEU’s (20 hours) per year and renew license annually through the State of New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department, Physical Therapy Board.

 

Physical/Job Requirements:

 

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.

 

Safety and Health:

 
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
  • Completed and cleared background check
  • Pass drug test if required for position
  • Knowledge and compliance with district and school Safety Plans

 

Equipment/Material Handled:

 
  • Multimedia equipment, including current technology
  • Equipment/materials relevant to the job responsibilities
  • Valid driver license and insurable by district if necessary
