Summary:

Culturally competent social workers shall utilize their cultural identities, to increase awareness of assumptions, values, beliefs, stereotypes, and biases, and to recognize how these affect services, and influence relationships and interactions with students and CCSD families. Social workers shall demonstrate an appreciation of their own cultural identities and those of others. Cultural social workers will have a heightened consciousness of how culturally diverse populations experience their uniqueness and deal with their differences and similarities within a larger social context. Social workers will work with at-risk students, families, teachers and administration to remove barriers to learning. Hozho Social Workers will provide educationally and culturally related social work services for students.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 
  • Complete routine reports and tasks promptly and efficiently.  Enforces confidentiality with use of release of information and other supportive documentation.  
  • Works with school level Student Assistance teams and counselors.
  • Employ problem-solving using techniques and use of proper referral procedures when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions used with students.
  • Works productively with colleagues, parents and students.
  • Meet on a weekly basis with the Community Schools Coordinator.
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor as defined by the code of ethics of the educational profession.
  • Attend all required professional development activities.
  • Align work time to goals and objectives of the district improvement plan.
  • Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines, and local. State and Federal laws.
  • Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education profession (NMAC.60.9.8)
  • Build rapport with staff, students, and counselors.
  • Utilize on-going appropriate methods to evaluate his/her services.
  • Employ appropriate cultural methods of practice that enable students to function adequately within their educational and community settings, (if needed)
  • Remain respectful of student’s cultural differences and needs.
  • Serve students with cultural sensitivity and respect.
  • Prepare social and development histories for students.
  • Share with Counselors school and community resources to enable students to receive benefits.
  • Attend meetings as needed to discuss student needs, evaluation data, and to plan for goals and objectives if appropriate.
  • Assist students in acquiring culturally  appropriate intervention if needed.
  • Create brochures to share with schools for staff and parents on appropriate agencies and services in the community.
  • If necessary, share information with school counselors so they may be connected with resources needed.
  • Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure.
  • Obtain training in behavioral interventions, preventions curricula, and cultural practices
  • Work in collaboration with schools' threat assessment team but serve as a resource for students.
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the scope of the position

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 
  • Knowledge od Dine Language and culture
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • NMPED License in Social Work (601 License)
  • Current NM Board of Social Work Examiners License

  • Experience working with EL Students in Socio-economic populations
  • Work with diverse student populations
  • Technology
  • Strong evidence of ability to work effectively and collaborate with other educators.
  • Must possess strong oral and written language skills.

 


Physical/Job Requirements:

 

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.

 

Safety and Health:

 
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
  • Completed and cleared background check
  • Pass drug test if required for position
  • Knowledge and compliance with district and school Safety Plans

 

Equipment/Material Handled:

 
  • Multimedia equipment, including current technology
  • Equipment/materials relevant to the job responsibilities
  • Valid driver license and insurable by district if necessary
